Designed by Local Architecture Network (LAN) Paris, Popincourt is an office project lasted more than a year. This office is located in the middle of a gentrified district of Paris, France. This project's ambition is to challenge agency practice with the modernization of the places, tools, and creation. A wooden construction and work themes are combined to create a unique look in an office.
This project is a cooperative project, so the production of human relations and the production of architecture simultaneously advance. It is very effective too to include a workshop in the process design that can polish up the “texture of city”. In the future, the architect wishes that this building will be “the historic property of the area”.
Through this project, the architect also tries to respect the maximum the original condition of the existing warehouse. The structure of the existing warehouse is not modified, only reinforced. The few new architectural elements are added and the walls are not demolished just restored. The idea of this project is to build without affecting the existing and understanding that a theatre will have another life and another use over time surely.
The hotel rooms are renovated from the old dorm rooms. The bathroom walls of Superior Room are replaced with reeded glass and white-coated walls are chosen to make the rooms light and bright. The Suite Rooms can accommodate up to 3 people with frosted glasses in front of the room, creating sparser and suitable space for accommodating group tours.
The opening of the house allows incredible views and interior natural lighting, especially to the dining room and second living room. A remnant sense of the old construction still can be found in the rest of the spaces accommodated within the old enclosure, arranged according to modern ways of living within contemporary architectural reality.
Each space is a set space defined by its use with a very clear and simple architectural container. The first is the open bar with a kitchenette together with dressing rooms and restrooms. The second is the children play area that can be used as a reading room. The third is the largest container, a living area that offers an enclosed, tempered and comfortable space for TV, conversation, etc.
A durable yet playful loft residence is also provided by this house through the white and grey accents, polished concrete floor, custom-built white oak kitchen millwork, and solid surface counters. The floor and some parts of the house wall come in grey, adding a more elegant look to this house interior.
There are 5 modules for this house that used: Living Module and Terrace Module, Bathroom + Kitchen Module, Simple Bedroom Module, Matrimonial Bedroom Module, and in addition to a corridor throughout the front area of the house.
Just like other projects, THAT House is also designed with sustainability as its core. The passive solar gain is optimized into all north-facing windows and all windows in this house are double-glazed. There is no limited glass on the eastern facades and no glazing on western facades. High-performance insulation also can be found anywhere in this house.
