To make Tuckers Point Club Hotel & Spa as a luxurious and sustainable resort in the Caribbean, SWA Group worked on landscape architecture for this 15.5-acre property which is originally known as the site of the 30s-era Castle Harbor. In the project, the architecture firm ensured to protect the majority of the indigenous landscape and site new hotel features.
Tuckers Point Club Hotel & Spa
Tuckers Point Club Hotel & Spa is a hotel that also houses villas, golf community, and beach club. It is located in the subtropical environment of Harrington Sound, Bermuda. The hotel was purchased by Juan Tripp, the owner of Pan Am Airlines, in the 1930s. Since people tended to take more trans-Atlantic flights, Tripp’s planes would leave New York and refuel in Bermuda, allowing his passengers to stay at his hotel before they fly to London.
Tuckers Point Club Hotel & Spa provides 1800 hotel rooms. This particular hotel is situated amidst the rolling terrain and saddled between two hilltops, maximizing the views toward Harrington Sound and Castle Harbor.
This 15.5-acre facility offers numerous caves and a 90-foot-deep chine. Over the past 10 years and after more than 5 years of construction, the site is considered as the most opulent and expensive construction in Bermuda estimated cost of $800,000 per key.
Therefore, to control costs and reuse materials, the owners chose to demolish most of the old structure but ensure to maintain the building’s original steel girders and an outdoor elevator. These efforts were able to save the cost as much as three million dollars.
What’s in Store
SWA Group set the new buildings on the steep terrain and designed two resort pools and decks.
They also designed the spa garden as well as exercise and croquet lawns. In a nutshell, the team in charge was deeply involved in general landscape and hardscape design for the entire site.
Moreover, the team offered design services for the Harbor Court Condos and the Private Residence Club, including a new pool and deck along the existing waterfront docking pier.
The property has on-site plant nursery which was coordinated by SWA. The plant nursery is all plant material that had to be collected or grown on the island where the site is located.
