How Drain Detailer Rethinks Sink Cleaning With Smarter, More Efficient Product Design

No matter how your kitchen and bathroom sinks have been designed, no matter how stylish they may look, it’s only a matter of time before they get clogged. Grease, food debris, soap scum and hair are just a few of the materials that can cause sink clogs in even the most well-kept homes.

Sink cleaning is essential for removing these clogs that can cause water to back up in the sink, damage pipes and contribute to costly leaks. But not all sink cleaning products are created equal.

As David Hazar, inventor and CEO of Drain Detailer, a reusable sink clog removal tool, highlights, his product’s distinct approach to sink cleaning helps homeowners with a more efficient and intuitive approach that puts a stop to pesky sink clogs.

The Inefficiencies of Standard Sink Cleaning Options

While most homeowners are aware of standard sink cleaning options like barbed drain cleaners and liquid drain cleaners, Hazar learned from his own experience that these solutions often aren’t as efficient as homeowners need.

“I always liked using the barbed plastic drain cleaners to pull hair out of shower drains, but you’re always left dealing with a lot of nasty gunk after you pull everything out,” he explains.

“I also found that these cleaners aren’t nearly as effective or easy to use for removing clogs from sinks. Not only was it hard to insert and remove them from the pipes, but they just didn’t seem to get rid of debris and buildup. Over time, I found myself cleaning my pipes more and more often and spending a lot more money than expected on these disposable tools.”

When homeowners find barbed drain cleaners difficult to use, they often turn to chemical drain cleaners instead. However, these liquid cleaners also have their share of shortcomings. “Liquid cleaners often fail to fully remove clogs, and instead push the clogs even deeper into the pipes,” Hazar explains. “As a result, the sink continues to drain slowly, and the actual cause of the problem becomes even harder to remove.”

As clogs worsen, homeowners may eventually find themselves needing to call a plumber for more intensive cleaning help. But as Hazar learned through developing his own product, there is a smarter and more efficient way to eliminate drain clogs.

How Drain Detailer Rethinks Sink Cleaning

Frustrated with the inefficiencies of existing drain cleaning tools, Hazar decided to look deeper into why his clog removal efforts weren’t working. What he found was shocking.

“I removed the drain cover and P-trap from my sink and shined a flashlight into the pipe, where I saw thick buildup coating the inner walls. The buildup dramatically reduced the circumference of the pipe, which is why debris kept getting stuck and clogs kept coming back. Barbed and liquid cleaners weren’t doing anything to get rid of that buildup. I realized that I needed something that would scrape away the gunk from the sides of the pipe.”

Hazar got to work, spending roughly two years experimenting with various prototypes of a tool that would push buildup out of the pipe without getting stuck itself. It was a process that required a fair amount of trial and error, as well as collaboration with a local company, to refine the Drain Detailer to the form it has today.

“The Drain Detailer is a reusable clog removal tool comprised of a detachable silicone brush head and a flexible plastic-covered fiberglass rod,” Hazar explains.

“To use it, you remove the P-trap and drain cover from your sink and place a bucket or bowl to catch debris under the open pipe. Simply coat the silicone head with dish soap and push it into the drain. The tool is designed to remove everything from the inside of the pipe, including built-up gunk along the walls. After you push all the gunk out the bottom, you can detach the silicone brush head and pull the rod back out through the drain. By cleaning the parts off, they can be reused again and again.”

The tool’s flexible rod allows it to be inserted into a drainpipe from either the bottom or the top to account for the design of the sink. By fully filling the space within the pipe, the Drain Detailer achieves a much more efficient clog removal than other tools, while the durable, spiral design of the silicone head is easy to clean and reuse for future clogs.

A Smarter Way to Clean

The Drain Detailer’s design is much more than a temporary fix — it removes the buildup that so often causes clogs to return. A more thorough clean keeps clogs from coming back, while the detachable components and flexible rod make the tool easy to store away until it is needed again.

The durable materials used in its design ensure that the Drain Detailer can hold up over time, even when used for several sinks, resulting in long-term savings compared to constantly buying disposable single-use cleaners and chemicals.

Even the most beautiful of homes require regular care and upkeep. With the Drain Detailer, homeowners have access to an efficiently designed tool that can be reused time and time again, to effectively remove all of the debris and buildup that cause clogs. The slim, reusable product ensures a smarter way to eliminate sink clogs and keep your home in prime condition.
