Macau Central Library: A New Library Building with A Facade Inspired by Former Modernist Design of Hotel

This 15,000 m2 ongoing project offers an awesome library that will provide a forward-thinking platform for influencing its surroundings. This new library building will be located by the Tap Seac square in the historical center of Macau, situated on the site of the former Hotel Estoril. Started in 2020, Macau Central Library is designed by mecanoo with a facade inspired by the former modernist design of the hotel.

Faculty of Mathematics at Karlsruhe University: The Refurbishment of the Mathematics Building

Dating from 1964, the Faculty of Mathematics at Karlsruhe University has been upgraded in terms of energy conservation and architectural design by Ingenhoven Architects. It is possible to reduce the consumption of energy by half based on the innovative energy concept. The refurbishment of this Mathematics building is started in 2011 and completed in 2015 in Germany.

Institute for Sound and Vision: A Large Euclidian Cube with A Colorful Facade

The program of this 2006 project is offices, a museum, parking garage, archives, and also an audiovisual library in a 45.000 m2 building. Institute for Sound and Vision is designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects as a large Euclidian cube. Half of the building is buried in the ground in Hilversum, Netherlands. The main highlight of this building is its colorful facade.

The design of MAYU and Mecanoo for this modern library can represent the meeting of histories, generations, and also cultures in one building. Tainan Public Library is located in Tainan, Taiwan with 37,000 m2 in size. It is an awesome project that realized from 2017 to 2020, designed as a home to the city’s cultural heritage, films, music, art, and also more than a million books.

Naturalis Biodiversity Center: Existing Buildings and New-Build with Layers of Stones

This 2019 project is a program of a museum, offices and depots, and laboratories. Designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, Naturalis Biodiversity Center forms a sustainable ensemble of existing buildings and new-build in Leiden. These buildings are also beautified by layers of stones that are interrupted by friezes of white concrete elements, designed by Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen.
