Wavenhoe Residence: A Living Place Highlighting its Deco Period Origins

Wavenhoe Residence is a Deco residence situated in Melbourne, Australia. Designed by FMD Architects, the house defers to its deco period origins. The design team was able to finish the project in June 2015. They went with the idea of using soft pastels, opulent marbles, and darker details to complement the house’s original design.

In the living spaces, the design team chose plush dark carpets and timbers mirror paneling. These elements go well with the existing timber paneling and detailing. The mirror is attached to a dark staircase and it creates an illusion of more space in return. In addition, a wine organizer is set below the mirrored paneling. Abstract paintings were chosen to adorn the white walls in the dining area.

Meanwhile, opulent marbles and soft pastels are incorporated into the wet areas. These materials are able to reflect the original neutral palette used in the space. With such combination, the wet areas look minimalist yet elegant at the same time.
