Design Week Lagos 2026

Design Week Lagos 2026

Lagos is about to turn into one big design venue. From October 18 to 25, Design Week Lagos 2026 sets up its main hub at the National Theatre in Iganmu and spills out into showrooms, studios and galleries across the city. This year’s theme, “Making a New Africa,” asks a sharp question: how does African design get from a great idea to something you can actually manufacture and buy?

Key Highlights

  • A theme built around production: Under “Making a New Africa” and the sub-theme “From Material to Market: Designing for Scale,” selected works will move into limited production runs to test their real market potential.
  • Made by Design Show: The festival’s official interiors and furniture trade exhibition covers joinery, kitchens and wardrobes, lighting and smart tech, surfaces, flooring and hospitality solutions, aimed squarely at architects, designers and developers.
  • Pavilion-based Design & Innovation Exhibition: Chicago designer Norman Teague leads the curation, joined by Nana Biamah-Ofosu, Ousmane Mbaye and Julio Rafael for the Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone Africa pavilions.
  • National Interior Design Summit: Organized with the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN), it mixes keynotes, panels and material exhibits on sustainable sourcing, hospitality and multi-family residential work.
  • Talks, competitions and workshops: The National Theatre hub also hosts DWL Talks, the Students Competition, National Design Innovation Competition (NDIC) presentations and hands-on workshops.
  • DWL × ORCA Design District: Over on the Island, this district runs pop-ups, showroom experiences and rotating showcases, with featured locations including Interstyle, Woodstyles, IO Furniture and Designhouse.ng.

Why Design Week Lagos 2026 Matters

The festival was founded by Titi Ogufere, the first African President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), and it has always sat where creativity meets industry. The 2026 sub-theme makes that link explicit, shifting the focus from showcase to market. Add curators whose work has appeared at the Venice Architecture Biennale, and this is a smart week for architects and interior designers specifying African-made products, and for brands eyeing the African market.
