Preston Hollow Residence: An Open and Light-Filled House with Concrete Walls

This open and light-filled is located right in the middle of the city but any other houses surrounding can’t be seen clearly. Preston Hollow Residence is designed by Specht Architects, located in Dallas, Texas. This house blurs the lines between outdoors and indoors perfectly, supported by its corrugated concrete walls and glass panels.

It is a modern house that can remove the boundary between interior and exterior. It has a floating pavilion roof that hovers over the exterior and interior spaces. The corrugated concrete walls and sliding glass panels can define the house’s courtyards. This house is open and light-filled, providing seclusion from the street as well.

The interior and exterior spaces of this house are linked by water. There is also a narrow channel that punctuated by a gentle waterfall near the main entry and cascading terraces. This channel flows smoothly through the house into the swimming pool. Within the stream casts, lighting at night changes patterns on the textures walls.

A corrugated appearance on one side can be created thanks to the concrete walls that cast using custom formwork. This way also remains smooth on the other side of the house appearance. The monolithic walls of this house are countered by delicate steel columns, flowing water, and frameless windows which are different from the brutalist architecture of the 1960s.
