Forrest Road House is a light-filled unique eco-friendly home with views of the Sandton skyline to the north in Inanda. This house is designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects with 1511 sq.m in size, facing the 15° east of north. For this big house, a clear transparency design is made and added into the house through some materials, elements, and structure.
Design
The first unique view of this house is the cantilevered Porte-cochere screen of floating steel tubes. This screen is designed with double sliding garage doors clad in dark limestone to blend with the house wall design. There is also a steel sculpture twirls on a podium next to the front door, designed by Regardt van der Meulen.
Rooms
The transparency of the house is clear thanks to the views out over the pool, spa, lounge, and multi-level hall. The double volume of the kitchen, lanai, dining room and family room also can be seen easily through this transparency. The area of kitchen and living room opens through the use of frameless concertina doors totally to the garden and lanai.
Materials
When not in use, the kitchen and the bar are hidden by the sliding glass panels to create a more intimate atmosphere. The views of the garden and living spaces can be seen through the skylight lit catwalk between the guest and suite bedrooms. The kitchenette, pyjama lounge, and a study are hidden behind the sliding wooden panels.
Details
The built-in cupboard and kitchen are custom built by Dada and Porro and imported by M Square Lifestyle Necessities from Italy. The interior design of this house is done by M Square Lifestyle Design while the modern and stylish furniture is also supplied by M Square Lifestyle Necessities for all rooms and spaces of the house.
